If I recall correctly the extention from Cooma to Bombala of the Mail from Sydney was a 'goods with pass' (corrections please). Passengers were catered for by a pair of facing seats in a compartment across the end of the freight guards van. This Saturday in February 1974 it is waiting to leave Cooma headed by 4821. This loco is now preserved at the Goulburn Roundhouse Museum. (late note) The guards van is a type with no passenger accommodation so passengers may not have been expected.
