Dawson's Creek

Dawson's Creek
Delighted to see the first flower on our recently planted Callistemon. New South Wales, Australia.

Callistemon viminalis Dawsons River Weeper is a rounded shrub or small tree that will grow to about 5m.

It has an increased weeping habit, its long and pendulous branches and soft grey/green slender leaves that are covered in long silky hairs make a very pretty statement in larger gardens.

In springtime it produces masses of the brightest scarlet bottle brush flowers up to 90mm long. It will also flower at other times in year, less flowers in autumn and spot flowering at other times...

Like most Callistemon the nectar laden flowers attract birds to your garden, particularly the scarlet honeyeater.

The genus name Callistemon comes from the Greek - 'kalos', meaning beautiful and 'stemon' meaning stamens

While the species name of viminalis comes from the Latin word viminalis - meaning with long, flexible twigs.

A beautiful image. The Callistemons are great in the garden, we have one which flowers almost constantly.
