c1890 London and South Western Railway Southampton Docks Office
Photo of an illustration in an 'Echo' publication, published by Southern Newspapers Ltd. 45 Above Bar, Southampton SO9 7BA 1980.
My great grandfather worked for the London and South Western Railway in Southampton.
c1897 to1909, he and his family were living in Battersea and he was a Railwayman at the Vauxhall Nine Elms locomotive works. The locomotive works were transferred to Eastleigh between 1908 and December 1909, so he and his family moved in 1910 to Bishopstoke, Eastleigh, Southampton, where he was a Hammerman for the London South Western Railway Company.
He had previously served in the Army, awarded the Egypt Medal being "in the operations up the River Nile and in the vicinity of Suakin 1884-85". His name is listed on the medal roll.
