The old train Biella-Oropa
A bit of history - The "Biella-Oropa" was inaugurated July 4, 1911 and was the second Italian tramway adherence to exceed 1000 meters above sea level. In winter, with snow and ice it could happen that the wheels slittassero, was used to solve an equipment sand spreader, but it is said that a few times were the passengers have to get off and push. The route of about 14 km was carried out in 1h 12 'uphill and 1h 4' downhill. Along the line there were 8 obligatory stops, and 8 optional. At 9.7 km there is the most complex piece of the track: the path crosses itself with a 360 ° bend along a 176 m tunnel that is still intact. Exceeded then called the "three arches area", another still well preserved building, it begins the ascent of the Old. When the path widens there was the stop of "Water Chapel" where there was a very famous fountain. Going up you can see Oropa Bagni who was the first Italian factory hydrotherapy (1850), could accommodate more than 200 people with large, elegant rooms. The last race of the tramway was made March 29, 1958.
