Appelées trainées de condensation, elles se forment à haute altitude à la sortie des réacteurs si l'air environnant est suffisamment froid et humide. Elles sont liées à la condensation de la vapeur d'eau émise par les moteurs autour de noyaux de condensation présents dans les suies et les gaz de combustion.

Called condensation trails, they form at high altitude as the engines exit if the surrounding air is sufficiently cold and humid. They are caused by the condensation of water vapour emitted by the engines around condensation nuclei in the soot and combustion gases.
