Split rail fence (Explored)

Split rail fence (Explored)
Split rail fences were popular where wood was plentiful and the ground was too hard to dig a fence post.

"Old Sturbridge Village is a living museum located in Sturbridge, Massachusetts which recreates life in rural New England during the 1790s through 1830s. It is the largest living museum in New England, covering more than 200 acres (80 hectares). The Village includes 59 antique buildings, three water-powered mills, and a working farm. Third-person costumed interpreters demonstrate and interpret 19th-century arts, crafts, and agricultural work. "

They were probably particularly effective at keeping out wild animals like deer, that would have otherwise gladly raided the vegetable gardens and fields :))
I really like the diagonal bands created by the mowed lawn, meadow grasses and wood in your image, Esther.

Belated HFF!

I saw one alike in Fort Steele Heritage Town, Canada. A clever way to build a fence! HFF Esther

A lovely fence shot Esther. These fences are attractive. I can't imagine they would be allowed nowadays as the Health and Safety police would be on the case!

HFF and have a good weekend
