Medea (Explored)

Medea (Explored)
The Sunday Challenge: worm's eye view

Medea - sculpted around 1868–80 by William Wetmore Story (1819–1895).

"In Greek mythology, Medea punished her unfaithful husband by murdering their two children. Rather than portraying the horrific deed, the sculptor selected an earlier moment of high psychological drama. Wounded by infidelity, blinded by jealousy and anger, Medea contemplates the pending crime. She holds a dagger in one hand, idly fondling the beads of her necklace."

Great composition. The lines of the roof and paintings work as leading lines, drawing attention also on the smaller sculpture on background. Like female David and Goliath.

Magnificent sculpture Esther, your presentation shows off the artistry of the sculpture in an elegant fashion. Made me think of the saying about a woman scorned.
