Spinifex grass is a hardy, spiny-leafed grass that grows in tussocks and is indigenous to Australia, New Zealand and New Caledonia. It stabilizes the sand dunes and plays an important role in the coastal ecosystem.

Kangaroo Island is the third largest island in Australia after Tasmania and Melville Island. Less that 4,600 people inhabit the island. The island is known for its natural beauty and wildlife.
