The Roadside Poor
Whereever we traveled in India, there would be groups of people waiting by the road. Whether they were there to socialize or to wait for a passing truck or bus, we never knew. The temperature was cool and they had no coats or sweaters so they wrapped themseves in blankets.
Picking up litter was a task believed to be fit only for the lowest caste so trash was a common sight along the roadways.
