"Ridin' the Waves" . Fire Island . Long Island NYC . 3 September 1992
Though I had always been one to write and journalize this poem essay, written while on vacation at Fire Island over Labor Day Weekend 1992 would be one of the first, if not the first, in what I now refer to as an important shift in my writing style that began to speak on the issue of 'racism.'
All writings before either skirted around or simply ignored and pretended that 'racism' either did not exist or that 'we shall over come.'
Though I would not realize it unitl many years later, this poem/essay, is amongst my TEN DEFINING MOMENTS.
