I found this beat up guitar at the Humane Society thrift store for $20. The paint was gouged and scratched, the strings were corroded and the frets were worn. I didn't even know if the electronics worked, but I took a chance. I disassembled it, cleaned all of the hardware, sanded the body down to the bare wood, coated it in a non-toxic linseed oil/beeswax finish, and put some new strings on it. It plays well enough - a couple of dead frets, but I might be able to fix that with a little filing.
