Cascades of recumbent chevron folds in the turbidite sequence of the Crackington Formation (upper Carboniferous) at Millook Haven, north Cornwall, lit by the late afternoon sun.
The northward-dipping (to the left) limbs of the folds are the inverted (upside-down) limbs.

The Lone Photographer

Rocks, sand, sea and a lone photographer illuminated by the last sliver of the setting sun at Crackington Haven, Cornwall.
I was hoping to see the Green Flash, having seen it once a few years ago from north Cornwall, but it didn't appear on this occasion. I think there was too much dust/water droplets in the atmosphere.
Zig-Zag folds at Millook Haven

These spectacular folds are at Millook Haven, near Bude, North Cornwall. The rocks are part of the Upper Carboniferous age Crackington Formation, thinly interbedded sandstones and shales, subsequently deformed into zig-zag folds with near horizontal fold axes as a result of the Variscan orogeny (mountan-building) at the end of the Carboniferous.

Originally uploaded for the Guesswhere UK group.
A rainy day cleared to give a bright evening and lively sea driven by a stiff north-westerly wind at Trevaunance Cove, near St Agnes, Cornwall. The cliffs and the hill just out of sight to the right (Blue Hills) are riddled with old mine workings and tips. Wheal Kitty is close by.
