SF Castro Blue Angels (#0062)

I was in San Francisco during Fleet Week, an event that always seems rather odd there. Though San Francisco has a long history of heavy military presence, that presence diminished significantly with the Base Realignment and Closure process of the late 1980’s. The closing of a majority of the bases, along with the long history of anti-war sentiment in SF, makes it seem very incongruous to be celebrating Fleet Week there – but they do.

In the distance here, people on the peak in Corona Heights Park watching the Blue Angels – I only had my pocket camera with me, so not much detail.
