Raton, NM El Shuler theater/city hall (# 0009)

Raton, NM El Shuler theater/city hall (# 0009)
Not a great picture, but an important structure. The Shuler theater is in a building from 1915 that at one time also included city hall and the fire station (the cornerstone says “City Hall”). The theater portion was originally an auditorium for live entertainment and later converted into a movie house, which closed in the 1950’s. In the 1960’s it returned to use as a live theater and continues to provide live productions. When I was there, the resident Santa Fe Trail School for the Performing Arts was presenting Annie – based on the cars and tour buses parked in the area, it looked to be a very popular presentation.

I’m not quite sure why this picture came out the way it did – from a distance it looks somewhat out of focus but in larger versions it looks less out of focus. I think the main problem may be the colors of the building and the light at that time of day.
