Ward Charcoal Ovens (#0618)
Charcoal ovens at Ward Charcoal Oven state park, south of Ely, NV. The ovens were built in the 1870's for making charcoal to be used in silver mining that occurred in the area. Per the sign at the site: "The ovens were constructed by Italian masons and are larger and of finer construction than most [charcoal] ovens found in Nevada" They are 30 feet high and 27 feet in diameter.
