It took me many years to learn to appreciate the subtle beauty in this very dry landscape. Now that I'm accustomed to the shades of the west, the dense greenness of the eastern U.S.now often feels a little too much "in your face".

As much as I wish we weren't doing what I think we're doing to the climate, I do wish I could go forward about two or three centuries and see what a more arid version of the Appalachians or the Kentucky limestone country might look like.
