Palm Springs auto show Stude aker (0233)

Palm Springs auto show Stude aker (0233)
1958 Studebaker President. My family, having a preference for unusual cars, had a number of Studebakers -- though none as elegant as this. In my senior year of high school I had, for a few months, a very used Studebaker for going to work.

Berny, kiiti, , have particularly liked this photo

Oooh, this one is snazzy! Everywhere was Ford/Chevy country, I think. Studebakers, Nash Ramblers and some others were considered only for fuddy-duddies!

Luckily that meant you could get used ones for cheap. Fortunately my family seemed to have missed the genetic code that meant you could only buy what was commonly acceptable.

Seems like my mom's folks had a Studebaker, vaguely remembering when we'd visit them (in El Paso) in the early 60s. I was never much of a car kid--not one of those who'd recognize makes and models on the street. Which was a bit different-- ;)

I was fascinated with cars, but mostly with the designs that were a little out of the norm. When foreign cars started being common in the late 50's and early 60's (Jacksonville's a port), I tried to keep track of the various types. I think my fascination was more about a fascination with 'foreign' (which included anywhere out of the South) cultures than with the cars themselves.
