Los Angeles Pacific Electric Red Car (#0056)
The Pacific Electric railway was a privately owned railway that connected the various cities of the larger Los Angeles region; the destination for this one was Bellflower, a city south of Los Angeles near Long Beach. Due to the color scheme used, the line was referred to as the Red Car system. The Red Car system was extensive, covering all of the metropolitcan areas of Southern California up through the 1940's. It extended along what is now I-10 from Redlands to Santa Monica (80 miles) and along what is now I-5 from San Fernando to Newport Beach (65 miles). See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Electric
Seen at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, see Zach's photos of the museum for great detail on the various cars and signals: www.ipernity.com/doc/eight_perf/album/805772.
