Berlin Soviet War Memorial Treptower (#2653)

Berlin Soviet War Memorial Treptower (#2653)
Walking away from the Motherland statue (previous picture), you immediately come to the massiveness and grandeur of the memorial. This is one of two identical granite monuments that are described as stylized Soviet flags and basically serve as a portal to the largest portion of the monument. The saying (in Russian) on the monument roughly says “Eternal glory to the Soviet soldiers who gave their lives to the liberation of humanity from fascism.”

The memorial is the largest of all Soviet war memorials (including those in the former USSR), and is the cemetery for 5000 of the more than 80000 Soviet soldiers who died in the Battle for Berlin.
