In what was, prior to the Nazi takeover, the Jewish quarter of Krakow. The area has now become somewhat trendy and still somewhat Jewish.

I'm surprised there are any Jews left here at all. They must have moved in long after the war. Interesting series and rather melancholy.

My knowledge of the Nazi era is not particularly strong and thus am open to any correction of the following. My understanding was that the Jewish population in Poland prior to the German occupation was relatively well integrated into the culture. During Nazi occupation there was a small number who were protected by non-Jewish Poles, the following Soviet era was not exactly embracing of Judaism, but was less harsh, thus those who remained formed the seed for a continued presence. Krakow is also a very international city with the presence of many international corporations, thus there would also be the return of Jewish employees to the area through those corporations.
