Walnut Canyon National Monument New Deal (1583)

Walnut Canyon National Monument New Deal (1583)
Dwellings on the eastern side of the stairs leading down from the visitor center. The CCC-built stairs and path blend into the rocks, but can be seen running down basically the center of the picture, to the right of center at the top, to the left of center from the middle down.

Was there with my family in the early 60s, and all the years I lived in Flagstaff I never made it back--

I've been in Flagstaff a number of times but had only visited this site once, something like 10 years ago. I only thought of it this time because I was giving a friend a week-long trip around Indian ruins and this was the only cliff dwellings that fit in that schedule. I was much more impressed seeing them a second time, in the winter when there were no tourists and you could take time to look around.

They did a good job with the stairs. Even with your description, it took me a minute to find them.

Part of what I like about the site is that the efforts to make it accessible blend in so well.
