The one other human I saw out that morning -- a ranch hand heading west who I had passed as he was shutting the gate. I figured he probably thought it foolish for someone to be out taking sunrise photos in sub-freezing weather. In the distance is Cedar Canyon and the route over the mountains to Alturas.

There's a mountain bike trail that runs down that canyon from the little ski area near the pass almost to Cedarville. IIRC it stops short of that narrows just outside town. Did that once--
