Eureka diesels (1678)

Eureka diesels (1678)
Abandoned diesel locomotives in Eureka, once of the Northwestern Pacific/North Coast Railroad. The tracks of the railroad were washed out in the 1990's -- the locomotives are in much worse shape than when I photographed them in 2004: Eureka, CA diesels 1125

Always a sad sight, even for diesels.

Thanks to all. I've read that there have been various thoughts over the years of returning rail service to the area, which would be one reason that they were left there. But the first time I photographed 10 years ago (link is with the description) they were already in bad shape. I guess it just wasn't economically feasible to scrap them.

Wow, I suspect they are well beyond economic repair.

I'm amazed no one is trying to take them apart for scrap. Really nice capture!

I think its because a major section of tracks were washed out a number of years ago and the overall railroad abandoned, thus these would have to be partially dismantled just to get them on trucks and out to a wrecker.
