Tayport East (Low) Lighthouse

30 Oct 2011 191
Built in 1823, it was the low light for a pair of leading lights used to aid navigation of the Tay. Its use was discontinued in 1848 when it was decided that it was too close to the high light for accurate navigation. It was replaced by the pile light off shore.

Tayport West (High) Lighthouse

30 Oct 2011 214
Built in 1820, it was the high light for a pair of leading lights used to aid navigation of the Tay. This light is the only one of the three Tayport lights that is still operational.

Tayport Pile Light (Larick Beacon)

25 Jun 2011 183
Built in 1845 and decomissioned around 1960. The original on-shore low light from a leading light pair was replaced by this one, as the original was deemed to be too close to the high light .

Tay Road Bridge

30 Oct 2011 166
So, as the Tay Road Bridge and Dundee come into sight, we come to the end of the Fife Coastal Path. Its been fun. You can see more photos from the FCP here . PS Note how the bridge slopes - its even more obvious comparing the piers at either end.

Using my new telephoto lens means that I can re-see lots of places and things I have looked at and seen many times before. In this case I got a shot of St Andrews' East Sands and Harbour from a different persepective. In the background you can see Tentsmuir Forest and the Sidlaw Hills with a bit of snow left after our recent return to winter.

Maiden's Rock

On the horizon you can see a big bank of haar (sea fog) - this came in over night so that we couldn't see a thing when we woke up. You can see the rock for the other direction here: www.ipernity.com/doc/davidyork/22861779
