Saturday 1 July 2017 (0811) – A mixture of old and new architecture in Portland Terrace, Southampton. Go-South Coast ‘Unilink’ liveried Alexander Dennis (ADL) Enviro400 1549 (HJ63 JKY) passes a row of grand looking houses as it dives beneath the glass edifice of the West Quay shopping centre. The view from the fronts of the houses may once have been better than that of today.

Saturday 1 July 2017 (0828) – Go-South Coast (Bluestar) Mercedes-Benz Citaro 2407 (HF55 JZE) and Scania OmniCity N230UD 1128 (HF58 KCE), seen in Bargate Street, Southampton. Whilst the subject matter of the rear end advert might generate lucrative revenue some would say it was like trying to shoot oneself in the foot advertising cars on buses. Also the Mercedes badge of the bus almost surmounted on a mini is interesting! Note the company premises across the street on the right, there is a travel shop at street level with administration and driver’s rooms on the upper floors.

Such a pity that the rear advert on 2402 covers some of the Bluestar branding. The backcloth features old and new construction. The remains of the old city walls are fragmented, a modern footbridge spans Castle Way linking two of the sections. The monolith beyond is part of a complex which features restaurants, a cinema and a shopping centre.
