Neal’s Travel H283 TAH in Brandon – 8 Oct 1994 (242-18A)

Neal’s Travel H283 TAH in Brandon – 8 Oct 1994 (242-18A)
Saturday 8 October 1994 – In early September 1994 Neal’s Travel of Isleham gained the Suffolk County Council contract to operate the three town services in Brandon. The services had been operated by Coach Services Limited of Thetford from when they first commenced in 1991.

H283 TAH, a 22 seat tri-axle Peugeot-Talbot was new to Coach Services for the work, passed to Neal’s with the contract and was seen in London Road working the 1200 trip of circular service R1 driven by Simon Meekings. The Saturday market occupies the Market Place on the right.

The area around Brandon was once a prime centre of flint mining and the pub in the background, the aptly named ‘The Flintknappers’, has a flint panel around the inn sign. Just a few miles north of the town is the location of Grimes Graves, the site of Neolithic flint mines dating back around 4500 years.
