Sunday 6 July 1986 – Former Ashton-under-Lyne trolleybus 87 (YTE 826) at the East Anglia Transport Museum, Carlton Colville, Lowestoft.

It is a Bond bodied BUT (British United Traction) new in 1956. BUT was formed in 1946 when AEC and Leyland merged their trolleybus manufacturing interests.

As I write, 35 years have passed by since I took this photograph but both cars are still part of the museum stock.

Tractacus, Nouchetdu38 have particularly liked this photo

Are there still trolley wires to allow them to drive around?

Yes indeed Graham. Over the ensuing years since taking this photograph (1986) and a later visit I made in 2015, the museum has gone from strength to strength.

The museum now has a much larger collection of trams, trolleybuses and motorbuses. Trackwork around the site enables operation of the trams and the overhead electricity wires are also used by the trolleybuses. The visiting public can ride on the vehicles.

As part of the attraction there are road surfaces are constructed of traditional setts. There are replica shops and the covered accommodation for the vehicles are constructed with a period flavour, all help create an atmosphere from the past.

I have created an album with photographs from the two visits to the museum.
