Ribble Morecambe-Burnley-Manchester service X14 timetable – 1 December 1973

Ribble Morecambe-Burnley-Manchester service X14 timetable – 1 December 1973
Ribble ran a Manchester to Burnley service travelling via Rochdale, Littleborough, Summit and Todmorden numbered X4/X14. In its heyday a two hour frequency was provided but by 1973 this had been significantly reduced.

Originally operating between Manchester and Burnley by the late 1940s the service had been extended via Blackburn and Preston to Blackpool (as service X4) or Morecambe (as service X14). However by 1973 the Blackpool section was provided by way of a connection to one of the more regular Burnley-Blackpool services. The service would cease just a few years later (mid to late 1970s).

Service X14 had certain licensing/fares restrictions (although unlike timetables from previous eras these were not detailed in this timetable), local traffic could not be carried over certain sections. Broadly speaking passengers boarding between Manchester and Slattocks had to travel to Littleborough or beyond (although if they paid the Todmorden fare they could alight en route); passengers boarding between Castleton and Littleborough had to travel to Holme Chapel or beyond. On the last trip of the day (2240 from Manchester) passengers could board at Rochdale for Todmorden and at Todmorden or Cornholme for Burnley.
