First Eastern Counties buses at Bury St. Edmunds - 29 Sep 2001

First Eastern Counties buses at Bury St. Edmunds - 29 Sep 2001
Saturday 29 September 2001 – A collection of Leyland Olympians seen at the First Eastern Counties garage in Cotton Lane, Bury St. Edmunds. The policy of the major bus groups has been to cascade older buses from the major urban centres to the country operators and over the years Eastern Counties has seen a variety of buses as a result.

On the left is 92 (F151 XYG), with Northern Counties bodywork new in November 1988 as Yorkshire Rider 5151.

Centre is 91 (FUM 495Y), with Eastern Coachworks bodywork new in May 1983 as West Yorkshire 1820.

Right is 77 (G133 ATW), with Northern Counties bodywork new in November 1989 as Ensignbus 133 which had later passed to First Capital (London).

Two sites occupied by a large car dealership (Arriva at the time of this photograph) stood either side of the garage premises and when the latter was vacated it was subsequently purchased and demolished. This enabled the dealership to expand and occupy the whole length of the eastern side of Cotton Lane.
