DSCF0852 An Arriva ADL Enviro300 in Letchworth - 23 Feb 2018
Friday 23 February 2018 (1253) – A view through the window of Arriva 4288 (GN14 DYH), a Wright Streetlite DF new July 2014, in Station Place, Letchworth Garden City. An Arriva Alexander Dennis Enviro300 (looks like one of the batch numbered 3551-3569 (KX09 Gxx) is seen working service 55 from Stevenage to Letchworth town centre and Grange Estate. It was about to turn at the roundabout rather than turn left into Broadway due to a diversion but did anyone mention this to the passengers patiently waiting at ‘Stop G’ in Broadway? I know they had not.
Letchworth, full title Letchworth Garden City, the world’s first Garden City established in 1903 inspired town planning across the globe. Created as a solution to the squalor and poverty of urban life in Britain in the late 19th Century based on the ideas of Ebenezer Howard as published in his book of 1898 ‘Tomorrow: A Peaceful Path to Reform’.
The splendid building in the background dates from the early period of the founding of the town (circa 1903-1925) and was the original estate office for First Garden City Limited. It now houses a legal practice at street level and apartments above.
