De Lijn tram 6021 at De Panne garage - 7 Aug 1996

De Lijn tram 6021 at De Panne garage - 7 Aug 1996
Wednesday 7 August 1996 - Belgium’s coastal tramway (kusttram) is just over 40 miles, approx. 70 kilometres), long running for almost all the length of the Belgian coast. Starting at Knokke in the east it runs to De Panne in the west from where it then continues a short way inland to Adinkerke. In this view De Lijn tram set 6021 was seen at the old garage in De Panne, a base for both buses and trams located alongside the road named Loskaai and accessed from Koninklijke Baan. It was subsequently replaced with a new modern parking facility for the buses and trams adjacent to De Panne mainline railway station (about 2 miles/ 3km south of the town centre and closer to Adinkerke than De Panne in reality). The original tramway service between De Panne and Adinkerke opened in 1932 but had been replaced with buses in September 1954. De Lijn re-established a tramway link in July 1998 and, in addition to the new depot, the line also serves the railway station, a theme park and a park and ride site.
