DSCF7778 Arriva 2538 (DK55 FYB) heading to Runcorn - 15 Jun 2017

Thursday 15 June 2017 (1821) – On board Arriva 2552 (DK55 FYS) heading towards the Runcorn-Widnes Bridge and passing 2538 (DK55 FYB) travelling the other way. Both buses are Wright Cadet bodied VDL DE12Bs both new in December 2005.

The bridge opened in 1961 as a replacement for a transporter bridge (where the traffic was carried across on a suspended platform). It was widened in the mid-1970s and then officially renamed the Silver Jubilee Bridge to honour the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. In late 2017 the new Mersey Gateway six lane bridge will be opened to the east which should relieve the traffic situation on the existing bridge and surrounding roads.
