Greyhound USA 2303 in Birmingham, England - 17 April 1978
Monday 17 April 1978 – This Greyhound MC8 Americruiser was shipped over to England from the USA and was exhibited at the annual International Gas Turbine Conference at the Wembley Conference Centre between April 9 and 13 1978. After the conference ended it visited selected locations on promotional work to the travel trade but did not venture much further north than Birmingham. Taking a very keen interest in the coaches of the USA and Canada I travelled from Rochdale to Birmingham just to see it and took these snapshots at what I seem to recall may have been in Park Street (a Wallace Arnold Tours yard?). All in all I wasn’t particularly bowled over with the quality of the seating and interior – making direct comparisons with British interiors and the far superior Chapman reclining seats fitted to the coaches of the likes of Yelloway. A Washington D.C. based Greyhound driver had come over with the coach and drove it to the different venues – a little further afield than one of his regular runs between Washington D.C. and Scranton, Pennsylvania.
