Statue of Liberty at dawn in March - aerial
Taken on the 30 March 2006 at 07:50 hrs from the Bellanca Citabria we flew out of Sussex, NJ. Even post 9/11 it staggered me that you could hire a small aircraft and fly below 800 feet asl down the Hudson and round the Statue of Liberty, up the East River to the southernmost bridge where you had to do a steep U-turn staying over the river, and back again up past the GW Bridge before turning west for Sussex . I have flown this route three times now when over in the USA. THe scenery flying alongside Manhattan Island is spectacular, although you do have to keep a sharp lookout for the tourist helicopters...
