Basaltic organ pipes
These "organ pipes" are columnar jointed volcanic rocks. The mound is nothing more than a volcanic chimney in the hollow of which formed a lake of molten rock. The lava, cooling in contact with water, gave rise to basaltic organs still visible today.

Daaankeschön Christa für die Widmung! Eine Augenweide für den Geologen! Die Säulen stehen immer senkrecht zur Abkühlungsfläche. Ein sehr beeindruckender Aufschluss! Und eine sehr beeindruckende Aufnahme!

Hubs, wir waren zum 3. Mal in der Auvergne und sind jedesmal begeistert. Alles stimmt da : Landschaft, Zeugen der Vergangenheit (Kirchen, Burgen, alte Städtchen) und, last but not least (..), der herrliche Käse !!

on y a passé une nuit à l'unique hotel ,avec une vue fantastique sur la plaine ,et les vestiges historiques sont aussi interessants ! mais ce sont ces orgues basaltiques que j'ai préféré !

M-F, alors vous étiez à l'Auberge de Margot ! Nous y avons pris un verre sur leur terrasse avec cette vue superbe, et moi aussi, j'ai bien apprécié tout le village, avec les orgues comme cerise sur le gâteau.

Auberge de Margot ,oui c'est celà ! mais nous y avons passé la nuit il y a au moins 8 ou 10 ans !
