Das Spital für Arme und Kranke - The hospital for the poor and sick

1580 wurde das Julius-Spital Würzburg eröffnet, initiiert und finanziert aus seinem Privatvermögen vom damaligen Fürstbischof JuliusEchter. Der goldene Schriftzug über dem Eingangstor (siehe Foto) besagt: "Das Juliusspital für Arme, Preßhafte (übersetzt: Gebrechliche) und Kranke". Das Juliusspital ist Bestandteil der Juliusspital-Stiftung, die 1579 gegründet wurde. Sie hat alle Kriege überdauert und ist bis heute voll funktionsfähig. Fast unglaublich!

The Julius-Spital Würzburg was opened in 1580, initiated and financed by the then Prince-Bishop Julius-Echter from his private fortune. The golden lettering above the entrance gate (see photo) reads: "The Juliusspital for the poor, the frail and the sick". The Juliusspital is part of the Juliusspital Foundation, which was founded in 1579. It has survived all the wars and is still fully functional today. Almost unbelievable!
