Eine fette Beute - A big haul

The photo shows an oak spider (Aculepeira ceropegia) that has captured, spun and killed a ladybird and will then feed by sucking out the beetle's bodily fluids. The spider had built its rather primitive web at the edge of a grain field. The spider's name comes from the oak leaf-like pattern on its abdomen, which is only vaguely recognisable in the photo.
