Der Kreislauf des Lebens - The cycle of life

The so-called jungle trail lies at the foot of an extensive nature reserve. Here you can observe the cycle of life in many places: Trees grow and multiply. At some point they reach the end of their life and die. Bacteria and fungi live on this dead plant mass and decompose it in the process. What remains is humus with many nutrients in which new trees and shrubs can develop ... And everything starts all over again.
The photo shows a group of old willows that is dying. In the PiP, a photo of a dead tree trunk affected by brown rot. In this process, special fungi break down the cellulose, leaving behind the reddish-brown lignin. The red-brown mass crumbles even when lightly touched.
