Some test shots:
-First shot is taken with on camera flash as is. You can see the extention of the macro on the super zoom causes a shadow at the bottom of the image if you're very close
-Second is the styrofoam wrap method to diffuse, you can still wind up with the shadowing at the bottom and the light is still harsh in some highly reflective places.
-Third is the DIY Ringflash (which cost me nothing using my american wayzes at the takeouts). This is a bit darker, but when you view large you can see the light is brilliant and even on the subject. Probably could be better lit if I turned the flash up, but I wanted all three set to same amount.
These are as shot straight out of camera and put on collage for comparison.
