making tomato sauce
I bought this spoon decades ago from a stall in the Istanbul Bazaar, from a man who only sold hand-carved wooden spoons, in every possible size. This was by no means the biggest - I recall one the size of a steering wheel - but this was the biggest one I could fit into my backpack, as the bigger the spoon, the longer the handle. This one has been hanging in my various kitchens as a decoration ever since. Today I have been using my new 20 litre saucepan to make tomato sauce. (Usually I use 2 x 10 litre pots.) This one is so deep that none of my ladles were long to stir it all, so I finally got to use my Turkish wooden spoon. (By the way, it's not "passata" tomato sauce, but "ketchup" tomato sauce).
