An amazing series Berny.......................we really have no idea of just how big some of these trees are until you see photos like this!

I wonder how old it was?

A sad sight, did they give any idea of it's age?

The tree fell about 300 years ago, caused bei a fire. I didn't find any informations about its age. But I will post an image of a sequoia called "Grizzly Giant", which is the oldest there with an age of about 3000 years!

It's thought now what finally kills giant sequoias (Sequoiadendron giganteum) is falling! They don't die of old age, but at some point (if nothing else) the ground they're rooted in eventually erodes away around them. That's why there's been a big push in recent years to keep foot traffic away from the base of the trees--much less things like automobiles!

Roots are very flat, so erosion is a big problem. Today there are much more fences around the better known trees, than in 1986....
