Bois du Luc - La Cité ouvrière

Bois du Luc - La Cité ouvrière
The Bois-du-Luc is particularly known for the surrounding company town (cité ouvrière) which was created for the mine works during the 19th century and is today one of the most notable surviving remnants of industrial paternalism in Belgium. It includes workers' housing which dates from the 1830s and covers approximately 2 hectares.

This is an amazing building.................and looks good in the sunshine. I was surprised and pleased to read that it's now being used as an Eco-Museum and has not been developed into apartments for rich people..!!

A cracking shot sir!

A simple but nicely proportioned building very nicely captured Berny, thanks for the interesting notes. A great series of industrial images.

I'm very familiar with company towns in the US, but didn't think about them existing in other countries. Is this preserved as a historical site there?

Yes it's preserved, but still used for rented flats, for rather poor people.
