Impressions of the onion market Bern

Impressions of the onion market Bern
However, the Zibelemärit did not begin until the 19th century, when farmers from Mont Vully brought vegetables - especially onions - onto the market. Around 1850 the women of the farmers also appeared in Bern at the Martinimesse. Soon the "Wistenlacher Wybli" were popular in Bern because of their lively, cheerful and polite manner. More and more the beautifully woven onion plaits came to the fore of her offer. The new bulb market soon flourished.

At this year's market 50 tons of bulbs were ready for sale.

Viele Berner meiden den "Märit" inzwischen schon. Zuviel Kommerz und Plastikhämmerli! :-)
