One of the biggest dolmen in Iberian Peninsula. It's integrated in the Major Church of Alcobertas. In its inner space there is a chapel.

This is the biggest set of Moorish open-sky silos in the Iberian Peninsula used as food warehouses (probably cereals). There is no evidence nor remains that might determine the silos' date.

The Medieval Furnace of Alcobertas was found last century by years 50's when there were some preparatory works to settle down a new ceramic factory. The furnace was used to produce ceramic pieces like roof tiles and daily utensils.

The British Expedition under the command of the General Wellesley disembarked at PORTO NOVO. After gathering with the Portuguese troops marched towards LISBOA, defeated the enemy advanced-guards at ROLIÇA, being attacked in this site of VIMEIRO by the French Army commanded by Junot reached upon them a glorious victory.

The Battle of Roliça, the first battle of the Peninsula War, was fought between the French troops of General Delaborde (the stronghold of the French defensive position was located at the cross' hill shown above) and the attack of the Luso-British troops under the command of Arthur Wellesley, future Duque of Wellington (came from the valley and double-involved the French stronghold). The defeated French withdraw to join the troops of General Junot, in Torres Vedras. This victory allowed that four days later the French were definitely defeated in the Battle of Vimeiro.

By the inauguration of the 1st Centenary of the Battle of Vimeiro Memorial, August 21st, 1908, presided by the last King of Portugal, D. Manuel II, it was served an homage lunch to the royal retinue which menu is reproduced at the abobe picture.
