After an international competition, the construction of the new Liège-Guillemins station was awarded to the architect Santiago Calatrava. Calatrava has already designed several railway stations. He designed the new part of the Stadelhofen station in Zurich, the Lucerne station, the Lyon-Saint-Exupéry TGV station, the Oriente intermodal station in Lisbon and the new PATH station in New York.
