We've done exactly the same in Madrid for at least 10 years, my girlfriend introduced me to the concept and I have continued to do it, and ask everyone I know to give me their used platic bottle and tetra pack tops.
Good to publish this for the awareness aspect! Well done! (I'm sure most regions have a similar scheme!).
