1988-1 Colombia
Folder: South America
First stage of a 6 country tour of South America. Our Base here was at Bogota, and included a few trips out of the city.
This area looked to have a high rainfall, and was generally overcast during our stay making the film pictures rather low shutter speeds most of the time, so some pictures are not very sharp, but should give a flavour of the area.

00 Awaiting Boarding for South America
01 Boarding Called
Luxury this time - a direct walkway onto our Boeing 747 Plane, not such a common experience in the 1980's
02 A Passing Concorde
We always wanted to travel on a Concorde, but fares were always too expensive then, Sadly, it is now long gone, so we can only dream...
03 A Refuelling Stop-over Before Continuing
These were the days when fuel efficiency was not as good as today with Jet Engines, so first stop across the Atlantic was in Trinidad, and everyone was off whilst refuelling.
04 Time To Stretch Our Legs at Trinidad
05 The Trinidad Transit Lounge
The Air-side lounge was a bit small here, and not really designed for "Jumbo" sized passenger quantities.
06 First Night In Bogota
After a short stop in Caracas, Venezuela, to drop off passengers, we headed into Colombia and finally delivered to our first hotel in Bogota. Our first steps on a new Continent.
07 Stability At Last
However, absolutely shattered from the long trip, and all the form-filling on arrival, there was only one thing to do right away.
08 .....And In The Morning
A chance to survey our surroundings before Breakfast. Bogota was a quite modern city very similar to those in the rest of the world.
09 View To City Centre
10 Bogota City Scene
11 Gold Museum Visit
At the Museum, lots of different gold pieces on display, but apparently not yet any particular organisation.
12 Bogota Side Street Views
A few general views as we go on-wards to our next destination in this trip. Oh good! It's raining! Home from Home.
13 Road to Mt Monserrate
Heading out of the city to a nearby mountain for the next stop. This included a cable-car ride up the mountain-side.
14 Church At Top Of Mt Monserrate
The "Sanctuary of Montserrate" is a large Catholic Church at the mountain top which overlooks Bogota.
