1941 Alcis repandata f-conversaria (Mottled Beauty)
Geometridae, Ennominae Wingspan: 38-52mm.
A common species throughout the UK, and widespread in Cornwall. One of the biggest members of this small group, and often quite beautifully marked and coloured. Identification can be made checking the mid-wing cross lines which are usually quite clear, with the outer line being relatively smooth and wavy, with a distinctive crescent curve near the leading edge. Many individuals have a dark patch between the two lines, like a large blurred spot. A fairly common form in some areas have the area between the mid-wing lines blackened, which is shown here. This is form conversaria. There is also a usually clear light wavy line all around the borders of the wings, particularly prominent across the bottom of the hindwings.
The flight season in the UK ranges from early June to mid August, but regularly extends from May to September in Cornwall.
