2030 Euproctis similis (Yellow-tail)

2030 Euproctis similis (Yellow-tail)
Erebidae, Lymantriinae Wingspan: 40mm, females a little larger.

A common species, usually flying July-August, the common name reflects the fact that there is a tuft of yellow hair on the tip of the abdomen. Another close species, the Brown-tail, which is a native of Southern Europe and Africa can sometime be seen as occasional migrants. Although, the tail tuft of this species is usually brown, it is possible to confuse the two species. However, the Yellow-tail has a small black patch at the posterior edge of the forewings which aids identification.
