Joseph Ritner, Pennsylvania Governor, Gravestone (Early and Recent Photos)
The left-hand photo of Joseph's Ritner's gravestone is a nineteenth-century cabinet card, and the one on the right is a photo I took in 2015. The brick building in the right-hand photo is the Mount Rock United Methodist Church.

For additional information, see the original cabinet card photo.

Quite an amazing difference! So fascinating to see - very hard to imagine without help!
Did you ever read the Daphne du Maurier book about time travel? (The House on the Strand, publ. 1969)?
Landscape (and addiction) figure very heavily in it. Great story.

Sounds interesting! I just requested a library copy of The House on the Strand. I recall enjoying another time travel novel -- Time and Again, by Jack Finney -- which I've been meaning to read again.

I read Time and Again for an American History course in college - and while we were reading it, John Lennon was shot outside the Dakota - which, as I'm sure you remember, featured prominently in the book.
Sad and surreal.
On a lighter note though, I loved the author's use of random vintage photos that he used in the story to have his protagonist "snap" as he traveled back to the last century!
I hope you enjoy The House On the Strand. It's been years since I read it - hope it holds up!

How cool that you found the spot and took that photo. I love time travel through photography. I'd probably love actual time travel also.
